How to Strawberry Milkshake the Easiest Way Tutorial 2021

Recently everyone’s favorite sponsored skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay area, Aaron Kyro, asked on his Instagram, “What trick would you like to learn the most?”.
Well, he heard you loud and clear! How to Strawberry Milkshake won by a landslide, and it’s been a few years since we’ve made a tutorial for this one. We consider this to be an advanced beginner trick. You won’t need to know how to ollie, kickflip, or any other tricks but, you should be very comfortable riding your board before you attempt the Strawberry Milkshake. You asked for it, and here it is! The easiest way to Strawberry Milkshake tutorial updated for 2020.

How to Strawberry Milkshake

  1. Ride at a comfortable speed with your feet in the proper Strawberry Milkshake position
  2. Step off the board with your front foot then quickly push down with your back foot to flip the board over into primo
  3. Scoop your back foot sideways against the griptape, bringing the tail-end of the board forward and then back to its regular position. Your back foot should remain close to the board at all times.
  4. Step back on the board with your front foot and roll away.

Foot Position

The foot position for this trick is extremely important. Place your back foot on an angle on the toeside edge of the tail, close to your back trucks. . The ball of your back foot should be near the back bolts.  Your heel should be sitting near the middle of the tail with your toes pointing toward the nose of your board. When you use your back foot to press down and flip the board over, your foot will need to be in this position in order to properly wrap the board around for the Strawberry Milkshake.
Your front foot needs to be placed on the heelside edge of the board near the front bolts, with your toes pointing toward the nose. Your front foot will be planting on the ground immediately when you start the Strawberry Milkshake, so having your front foot in this position will make it easy and quick to take your foot off the board.

Practice Steps

With your front foot already planted on the ground, simply push down with your back foot to flip the board over, then quickly use your back foot to push the board back onto the wheels. Have that back foot in the Strawberry Milkshake position, repeating this press-down motion until it feels comfortable and the board flips over and back consistently. When you’re ready, try this practice step but start with both feet on the board. You’ll need to step off with your front foot first, then repeat the first practice step then get both your feet back on the board.  Step off, then step back on!

The Whip

Once you’ve mastered those practice steps, you’ll be ready to use your back foot to whip the board around for the Strawberry Milkshake. This foot motion can be complicated but once you learn it, it will become second nature. Start with your feet in the proper position then step off with your front foot. Quickly push the board down and into primo position with your back foot. After you’ve pushed down with your back foot and the board is in primo, scoop sideways with your foot against the griptape, bringing the tail-end of the board forward and then back to riding position. Your leg/foot will be making a circular motion and your board will wrap around your foot, following it back to a riding position. At this point you ‘ll step back on the board with your front foot to roll away.

We hope our updated tutorial helped you with your Strawberry Milkshakes. This will always be a fun trick to do, so bring it to the streets and do it on a bank, or even down some stairs. Now get out there and SKATE!
